While the landing party—Welt Yang, March 7th, and the Trailblazer—has already departed for Central Starskiff Haven, Dan Heng cannot shake the horrifying revelation in Kafka’s broadcast: Blade, the vengeful swordsman bound to his former life as High Elder Imbibitor Lunae, is loose on the ship.
Dan Heng was condemned to perpetual banishment from the Xianzhou Luofu, forbidden from ever returning under threat of execution or eternal imprisonment in the Shackling Prison. Yet, realizing that Blade’s presence places his companions in mortal peril (“If he’s on the ship, then Welt, March, and the Trailblazer… everyone is in grave danger!”), Dan Heng chooses to break his exile. Approached by Himeko, he receives her quiet blessing: the Path of the Trailblaze allows each traveler seven standard days of autonomous action at each destination, turning the heavy baggage of the past into the strength required to forge ahead.
