The Stars Are Cold Toys

In-Game Log

Following the echoes of the past through the desolate Corridor of Fading Echoes, you solve the ancient defense mechanisms, uncover the shocking truth behind the birth of the Eternal Freeze, and defeat the guardian shadow standing between you and Everwinter Hill.

Synopsis & Key Lore

1. Into the Corridor of Fading Echoes

Crossing the frontlines, the Astral Express crew and Seele step into the Corridor of Fading Echoes. The ambient temperature plummets and the Fragmentum corruption thickens to suffocating levels. Along the pathway, Seele spots an item discarded in the snow—the very orphanage relic belonging to Bronya, proving that she and Supreme Guardian Cocolia recently walked this path.

2. Echoes of the Old World

Phantasmal afterimages of Cocolia and Bronya materialize within the mist. Cocolia reveals that this corridor was once Belobog’s northern border 700 years ago, where First Supreme Guardian Alisa Rand led the Silvermane Guards in desperate resistance against the Antimatter Legion. Cocolia claims that these ruins will soon become the birthplace of a “new world.” Bronya vehemently rejects this, questioning why every past Guardian resisted the Stellaron if its promises were benevolent.

3. The Ancient Defense Hubs

Finding the central mechanism gate sealed, Dan Heng and the crew are forced to navigate the ruined fortifications. They seek out and activate four separate Mechanism Energy Hubs, overcoming patrolling Fragmentum monstrosities that curiously guard the man-made machinery rather than destroying it.

4. The Origin of the Eternal Freeze & The First Wish

As further echoes replay along the stone corridors, Cocolia discloses the most guarded secret in Belobog’s history: seven centuries ago, with the Legion endlessly advancing and mortal flesh failing, Alisa Rand turned her gaze toward the Stellaron and made the First Wish. The catastrophic blizzard that froze the world was humanity’s own desperate plea granted by the Stellaron. Cocolia justifies her current actions as completing what humanity began, while Bronya mourns the blindness of that tragic pact.

5. Confronting Cocolia’s Echo & The Spirit of Trailblazing

At the innermost gate beneath the mountain peaks, a hostile, fully formed Echo of Cocolia blocks the path, guarding the entrance with military ferocity. After a fierce battle against the Guardian Shadow, the phantom dissolves, unsealing the grand stone staircase leading up to Everwinter Hill. Gathering their resolve, the Trailblazers and Seele embrace the core ethos of their journey: helping those in need, relying on trusted companions, and fighting to preserve a dying world.

Complete In-Game Dialogue Script (EN)

1. Venture Deeper into the Corridor of Fading Echoes

(Stepping into the snow-covered ruins of the Corridor of Fading Echoes)

  • Seele: Look at these ruins… Nature didn’t cause this. It was destroyed by human hands.
  • Dan Heng: Long before the Eternal Freeze arrived, an ancient war was fought here. The Antimatter Legion swept across the star system, and Belobog was its final battleground.

(If the player attempts to head downstairs immediately)

  • March 7th: We’re deep inside the Fragmentum… There could be hidden dangers lying in wait. Let’s look for other clues first!

(Investigating the glowing item discarded on the side of the road)

  • Seele: This is… Bronya’s!
  • [Trailblazer] We found it in the orphanage…
    • Seele: Yeah! So she’s… she’s been here already?
  • [Trailblazer] Could she be here too?
    • Seele: Right, she must be! This can’t be a coincidence.
  • March 7th: Wh—Whoa! Quick, look! (In the distance, phantasmal translucent silhouettes of Cocolia and Bronya appear walking along the parapet)

2. Catch Up to Bronya and Cocolia

(Approaching the first spectral echo)

  • Bronya: (Echo) …You still haven’t told me what this place is, mother.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Seven hundred years ago, this was Belobog’s northern border and the site of an ancient battle. Here is where Alisa Rand led the first Silvermane Guards in resistance against the Legion.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Now… it is nothing more than an abandoned corridor, filled with the sounds of Old World echoes.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Don’t let its fragmented appearance fool you, Bronya. On the day the promise is fulfilled… these ruins will become the breeding ground of a new world.
  • Bronya: (Echo) …Mother, do you truly believe the Stellaron’s promise? It summoned the blizzard beyond our walls and opened the door of the Fragmentum. It destroyed our civilization, it—
  • Cocolia: (Echo) …
  • Cocolia: (Echo) When we arrive at our destination, you will see everything with your own eyes. (The spectral echoes fade into the wind)
  • Seele: That’s Bronya’s voice! But… why are they transparent?
  • Dan Heng: The Fragmentum doesn’t just corrode physical matter; it records residual human memories and replays them when stimulated by high-density imaginary energy.
  • March 7th: So Bronya and Cocolia really passed through here! And not too long ago either!
  • Seele: Come on, we have to catch up to them!

3. Try to Find the Switch and Open the Mechanism Gate

(Approaching the large locked mechanical gate)

  • Dan Heng: I can’t say I like the idea of interacting with our surroundings — especially this deep into the Fragmentum. However…
  • March 7th: However?
  • Dan Heng: …There’s no other way. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
  • March 7th: Ha, even Dan Heng the sensible has his adventurous days! (Interacting with the nearby Mechanism Energy Hub)
  • March 7th: It worked, right?
  • March 7th: …Wait, the gate didn’t move an inch!
  • Seele: sigh Are there other units around?
  • Dan Heng: Hmm. It’s clear that whoever designed these mechanisms didn’t want outsiders to get through too easily. Let’s keep looking for the energy hubs.

4. Activate All Mechanisms

(Descending into the lower plaza)

  • March 7th: Look over there! I think I can see the next unit.
  • Seele: …I see it too — let’s go.

(Defeating the Fragmentum monsters guarding the first mechanism)

  • March 7th: Are those monsters guarding the energy hub?
  • Dan Heng: It seems like it… Strange. Fragmentum monsters usually destroy man-made objects. (Activating the first Mechanism Energy Hub)
  • March 7th: Did you hear that? This mechanism must be on now! Come on, let’s find the next one!
  • Seele: Where is the next mechanism… Oh, behind that gate!
  • Dan Heng: There’s no switch on this side. We need to find a way around.
  • Seele: I’ve never seen such a desolate place… Even the Underworld’s Great Mine has more life than this.

(Approaching the second spectral echo along the western corridor)

  • March 7th: gasp Are these echoes too?
  • Dan Heng: Yes. The Fragmentum here seems to have made a special connection with Cocolia. It’s repeatedly generating forms in her image.
  • Bronya: (Echo) I don’t understand… Even if the truth is as you say, every generation of guardian has resisted the call of the Stellaron…
  • Bronya: (Echo) Can all of them have been wrong, mother?
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Do you still not see, Bronya? There is no right or wrong here. Some of them acted out of human pride, others out of human shortsightedness.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Our ancestors… including Alisa Rand… spent their whole lives trying to prolong this civilization. Then, after all fell still, their memories were scattered by the blizzard.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Tell me, Bronya: of all the Supreme Guardians who came before, which one managed to dispel the Eternal Freeze? Which one prevented the Fragmentum from encroaching upon the city?
  • Bronya: (Echo) …
  • Cocolia: (Echo) None of them. All their struggles did was delay the inevitable. But the Stellaron is different. It offers a new beginning. (The echo vanishes)
  • Seele: That lunatic… She’s completely brainwashed by that thing!
  • Dan Heng: Cocolia has succumbed to the Stellaron’s psychological whispers. When despair clouds a leader’s judgment, even destruction looks like salvation.
  • March 7th: We can’t let her convince Bronya! Let’s get these gates open!

(Navigating the rotating bridge and activating the second and third Energy Hubs)

  • Dan Heng: The power lines are synchronizing. One more mechanism left.
  • Seele: Up those stairs — look out, heavy patrol incoming!

5. Defeat the Guardian Shadow & Reveal the First Wish

(Encountering the elite Guardian Shadow at the ancient fort wreckage)

  • Dan Heng: If we avoid this enemy, we might be ambushed further in. It’ll be too late for regrets then… Let’s defeat this one here!

(Battle against Guardian Shadow and Incineration Shadewalkers)

(After the battle)

  • March 7th: Phew! This enemy was completely different! If I didn’t know it was a product of the Fragmentum, I’d think we were fighting a human!
  • Dan Heng: Unlike those random low-level Fragmentum creations, this one seemed to possess military instincts. It was able to use complex battle tactics.
  • March 7th: Look, Bronya and Cocolia’s echoes appeared again!

(Listening to the final historical echo)

  • Cocolia: (Echo) This is where the first Guardian led the Silvermane Guards into battle. She made huge sacrifices for the sake of temporary respite.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) But the otherworldly Legion did not tire. She soon realized that flesh and blood could not contend with so ruthless an enemy.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) When all was nearly lost, she chose to set her sights on the Stellaron… and made the first wish.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) As for what came later… you know as well as I.
  • Bronya: (Echo) So… the Eternal Freeze was a disaster brought about by a human wish…?
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Ironic, no? All the Stellaron did was answer humanity’s call, and yet we kept its existence a closely guarded secret for centuries.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) Even going so far as to attempt to use “it” to maintain our dying ember of a civilization.
  • Cocolia: (Echo) But no more, Bronya. The time of deceit is over. Come with me to the summit. (The echoes dissolve into falling snow)
  • Seele: …The Eternal Freeze… was wished into existence by Belobog’s own founder!?
  • Dan Heng: A classic Stellaron pattern. It fulfills the desire of civilization, but twists the outcome into cosmic ruin. Alisa Rand wished to stop the Legion, and the Stellaron stopped them… by freezing the entire star system.
  • March 7th: That’s awful… But Cocolia wants to make another wish! We have to stop her before it’s too late!

6. Confronting Cocolia’s Echo & The Ascent to Everwinter Hill

(Entering the innermost square before the monumental mountain staircase)

  • Seele: Look up ahead! It’s that “shadow” of hers again… but Bronya isn’t with her this time.
  • March 7th: It’s only a Fragmentum illusion. Let’s get a closer look.

(Approaching Cocolia’s Echo)

  • March 7th: It feels like this echo is different from the others before…
  • Cocolia’s Echo: Intruders…
  • March 7th: Huh!? Did… did she just speak!?
  • Cocolia’s Echo: You cannot… approach…
  • Seele: Not good — March, out of the way!
  • Cocolia’s Echo: …THE STELLARON!

(Climactic Battle against Cocolia’s Echo)

  • Cocolia’s Echo: Intruders… You go no further!
  • March 7th: A—Are you sure this isn’t the real her!?
  • Dan Heng: It may look like her, but the Fragmentum can only create forgeries. Bring her down!

(After vanquishing Cocolia’s Echo, the spectral form shatters into crystalline frost)

  • March 7th: …She disappeared.
  • Seele: Those stairs… it’s the only way forward.
  • Dan Heng: Wherever they lead, it must be the end of the journey.
  • March 7th: I don’t wanna get to the end so soon… I want my journey to go on forever.
  • Seele: This means that Bronya is up ahead… and so is the fate of the Overworld and the Underworld. It’s all in our hands.
  • Seele: Strange, I thought I’d feel nervous or afraid… but I don’t. The only feeling I have… is that none of this seems real.
  • [Trailblazer] Is this how Trailblazing expeditions usually come to an end?
    • March 7th: Not always, sometimes it’s a happier conclusion!
  • [Trailblazer] These two have gotten used to these expeditions.
    • March 7th: To be honest, you never really get used to them! We always used to rely on Himeko and Mr. Yang.
  • [Trailblazer] Resting forever in the Snow Plains… that wouldn’t be so bad.
    • March 7th: Hey, way to boost morale over there!
  • Dan Heng: The Express has traveled world after world. We are merely passing travellers — witnesses to part of a grander story.
  • Dan Heng: We invariably avoid getting drawn into turbulence that can decide the fate of a world… but there are always times when we have no choice but to act.
  • March 7th: Or to put it another way, Trailblazer… this is one heck of a first Trailblazing expedition! You hit the jackpot!
  • Seele: I was about to bore you all with my gloomy reflections… but on second thought — not today. Adventuring with you guys by my side has made me feel like no obstacle is too big.
  • March 7th: Right on! But you can say whatever you like — a good adventure shouldn’t be full of rules and regulations!
  • March 7th: Helping those in need, befriending those worth counting on, and saving the world a few times along the way…
  • [Trailblazer] This is the spirit of trailblazing!

Sinossi & Eventi Chiave

Trascrizione Integrale dei Dialoghi (IT)

  • Seele: Guardate queste rovine…

  • Seele: Questo… appartiene a Bronya!
  • [Trailblazer] Lo avevamo trovato nell’orfanotrofio…
    • Seele: Sì! Quindi lei… lei è già passata di qui?!
  • [Trailblazer] Potrebbe essere ancora nei paraggi?
    • Seele: Esatto, deve esserlo per forza! Non può essere una coincidenza.
  • March 7th: U—Uoooh!

  • Cocolia: (Eco) …
  • Seele: Forza, dobbiamo raggiungerle a ogni costo!

Tuttavia…
  • March 7th: Tuttavia?
  • Dan Heng: …Non abbiamo altra scelta. A mali estremi, estremi rimedi.
  • March 7th: Ha!

4. Attivazione dei Meccanismi di Difesa

(Scendendo nel piazzale inferiore)

  • March 7th: Guardate laggiù! Mi sembra di scorgere il prossimo generatore.
  • Seele: …Lo vedo anch’io: andiamo!

  • Bronya: (Eco) Non riesco a capire…
  • Bronya: (Eco) Possono forse essersi sbagliate tutte quante, madre?
  • Seele: Quella pazza scriteriata…

(Ascoltando l’ultimo eco storico)

  • Dan Heng: Il tipico schema d’azione dello Stellaron.

  • Seele: Guardate lassù in cima!

(Avvicinandosi all’Eco di Cocolia)

  • Cocolia’s Echo: Intrusi…
  • March 7th: Eh?! Ha… ha appena parlato?!
  • Cocolia’s Echo: Non vi avvicinerete…
  • Seele: Attenti! March, togliti di mezzo!
  • Cocolia’s Echo: …ALLO STELLARON!

(Battaglia decisiva contro l’Eco di Cocolia)

  • Cocolia’s Echo: Intrusi…
